Lots and lots of tunnels to start with which minimises the climbing, but still generally uphill.
For many miles we followed up alongside a wide river coming down in the opposite direction. Wide and fast flowing, tumbling down over the rocks. It seemed pretty high as some trees alongside were submerged. Snow melt and all the rain from yesterday I guess.
We turned off the E16 at Framnes on to route 13. A reasonably gentle climb until, suddenly, we saw zig zags across the sheer face in front of us climbing up to the pass at 1012m. Huge waterfall thundering down to one side. Slowly all the way up in second gear for me. Once up on top it plateaued out and we had a drive through walls of snow and ice fields again, but this time in the sun shine, so time to stop for photos. Just before we start the descent the view from the top included the valley we were to drop into.
Met motorcyclists at top from Czech republic who had friends with series 2, and we told them two of us had been to Kutna Hora.
Visited the second oldest stave church in Norway at Vik. Built in 1140, covered in tar as preservative. It had very Celtic looking carvings on it. Had it to ourselves, coach party arrived just as we left.
Campsite at Djuvik, parked right on the shores of Sognefjorden. Magnificent setting, with views across the fjord. I think people approve.
Curry cooked, pudding consumed, and all very content. Apart from Harriet who currently has James's pants draped over her face. ( he's done some washing.)
Sun has now gone down over the mountains opposite, dolphins playing in the fjord.
