Climbed up through a lush and pleasant valley to a bleak, barren and, literally, Arctic wind swept plateau. Part way along this plateau is the Arctic circle line and the Arctic circle visitors centre ( a.k.a. tat shop.)
Spent a while taking photos and buying souvenirs in the shop. To be fair, the shop had some good stuff, not your normal nasty tat.
We then all had some ice cream on the Arctic circle line.
Finally, when everyone was cold we moved off northwards still. A long way against the unforgiving wind and then dropped back down again. Ranges of mountains all march off into the far distance and are all covered in snow. It suddenly looks like an Arctic landscape.
We are staying the night in a small little town called Fauske. In a big caravan overlooking the fjord.
People here are disappointed with the current weather. Apparently it shouldn't be raining anymore, and it should be 23C. It is actually about 6C, and we are having showers, some of them hail.
Just had another shower, but this time with sun produced a fantastic rainbow.
Hi lad, glad you all made it. I know there was a lot of time & effort went into the trip, was all worth it when you saw the tat no doubt?
ReplyDeleteNearly fell off my seat when read about the rain, had they not read up about you?
Congratulations! Although I must say I am very disappointed at lack of night-time photos....
