But we'll worth the effort, spectacular scenery and equally spectacular changes in weather.
Mostly had the road to ourselves again, but did get busy at times. Creeping down the mountains we tended to be the head of a convoy. With the smell of hot brake shoes lingering in our trail.
The highest pass was 1012m high. Blue ice on the mountain lakes, snow everywhere. Then drop down alongside meltwater torrents, waterfalls tumbling down the sheer mountainsides to left and right, the largest predicted by plumes of spray across the road.
Went through lots of long tunnels, many over 10km at times. I can see why they don't hunt trolls, they must use them to punch through the mountains to create these tunnels. Humans would struggle. One tunnel was so long we went between 2 seasons, another did a complete spiral inside the rock.
Took a ferry across a fjord as part of today's journey. Waiting at Jondal the cloud closed in and we were treated to a violent thunderstorm. Forked lightening down to the earth with the thunder reverberating up and down the valley sides. I was a bit worried with my CB aerial being the highest thing around - especially as I had a full tank and jerry can of petrol on board.
Dropped down in to Bergen and drove through the centre, past Bryggen, to our hotel.
I've been parked up in a garage that doesn't exactly fell very secure to me, but we'll look after each other.
Beer high price index: £12.50 (0.6cl cobra)
Midge annoyance index: 0
I find Cobra a beer that is best supped slowly to allow the flavours to be appreciated & at £12 a bottle give it a go.
ReplyDeleteSome grand pictures there, look forward to seeing more.
Charlie, most engines prefer water to beer - especially at that price!
ReplyDeleteI am currently enjoying a few Rebellion beers @ £1.80/pint. But not quite the same scenery.
